The treatment of infertility using acupuncture and other Oriental Medicine dates back thousands of years. These techniques have proven to enhance fertility and improve the success rates of infertility treatments such as Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) and In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). A study published in the Fertility and Sterility journal found that acupuncture dramatically improves the chances of becoming pregnant when used in conjunction with other assisted reproductive techniques (Paulus et al, April 2002).

Acupuncture can improve the outcome of fertility treatment in a number of ways:

• By increasing blood flow to the uterus, which improves the chances of an embryo implanting in the uterine wall.
• By reducing anxiety and stress, and the hormones which are secreted when the body is under stress, which can significantly decrease the chances of fertility.

• By positively affecting the hypothalamic, pituitary and ovarian systems, enhancing fertility.
• By helping to regulate the menstrual cycle.
