2 Minute Read:
Many prospective parents don’t know when they should see a fertility specialist. It can be difficult to know if the challenges you are experiencing are typical or need specialized care.
Dr. Saadat has a few guidelines to help prospective parents decide if they should schedule a fertility evaluation.
How Long Can Conception Take?
Many people have the mistaken idea that unprotected sex will lead to immediate pregnancy. This is not always the case.
Several natural factors can impact the conception timeline. It is not uncommon for healthy couples to take months — or longer — to conceive naturally.
For patients trying to conceive, Dr. Saadat usually recommends scheduling an appointment based on the woman’s age and the length of time it takes to conceive.
- For women under 35, patients should wait for 6 to 12 months before scheduling a fertility evaluation.
- Women between the ages of 35 and 40 should schedule an appointment after 6 months without achieving pregnancy.
- For women over 40, it may be time to schedule an appointment with a fertility specialist if you have not achieved conception within 3 months.
These timelines should give patients guidance on when a fertility evaluation may be necessary.
Other Reasons I Should See a Fertility Specialist

These factors may include:

Prospective parents may also want to consider lifestyle changes to increase their fertility.
